Background

A small town in the shadow of Mount Shasta has been fighting to keep Nestlé Waters North America from building a water bottling plant in its community. The Protect Our Waters Coalition hired SWM to pressure the company to either abandon the project, or at the very least, to conduct rigorous scientific research on the impacts of a plant on this pristine region.

No Public Water for Private Profit:
Protect Our Waters Coalition

Public Good PR brought the efforts of the Protect Our Waters Coalition into the international spotlight by garnering worldwide media coverage. With placement in more than 150 outlets including Business Week and The Washington Post, SWM’s strategic media outreach led Nestlé to scale back plant plans by 60 percent and to cancel its original contract with the town of McCloud, California. The company also agreed to conduct extensive scientific research on how the plant might affect the surrounding natural habitat. To date, no new contract has been signed between Nestlé and the local community services district.
