Background

Homicide is the leading cause of death for youth ages 15-19 in California. Youth violence can be prevented when young people are provided with positive choices, including after-school programs, vocational training, organized sports, and mentoring.

"Public Good PR knows how to get media coverage that is right on message."

Laurie Kappe, President, i.e. communications, LLC

Public Good PR was a part of the strategy team for a 2 year, $2-million public education campaign to prevent youth violence, funded by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation to i.e. communications. The campaign generated broad media coverage by issuing voter polls, youth surveys, budget reports, county scorecards, and by drawing attention to daily incidents of youth homicide. Choices for Youth received the 2002 Council on Foundations Wilmer Shields Award.
